Group coaching is not just about getting people together and then “going around the circle” for 5 minutes each until everyone has had a turn. Actually, is there's much more to coaching groups than most people realize or assume. It is really about the community and communication that comes from interacting with the coach and creating connection with the other members in the group.

Group coaching utilizes active learning, experiential exercises and reflective listening to focus on goal setting, accountability and action with people who come together with a common interest but not necessarily the same goal. For example, a group of people may come together to be coached on effective leadership, but each individual has their own final goals to which they would apply their new skills.

Group Coaching and Facilitation can address a wide variety of objectives:

  • Come together to help each other deconstruct, discuss, and resolve concerns.
  • Take action and then reflect on experience, which enhances learning because it provides a strong foundation for reflection.
  • Provide feedback and improve self-awareness
  • Improve interpersonal support skills: listening, coaching, questioning, and feedback
  • Questions and feedback reshape underlying assumptions, create new mental models, stimulate discussion, and enhance the quality of learning with regard to the group topic or intent

“Working tons of hours at two different sites, I was struggling to find balance between my work and family life. After five sessions with a peer coach, I was able to set boundaries and learn to let go of things that prevented me from being successful outside of work.”
